A5 and A4: planning a smaller page
Understand the dimensions before folding or reducing a document.
By Printer Paper Size Team•

A5 measures 148 × 210 mm. A4 measures 210 × 297 mm. Halving the long edge of A4 gives 148.5 mm; standard A5 uses a rounded 148 mm edge.
Folding is different from scaling
Folding an A4 sheet makes two smaller panels. Scaling an A4 document to A5 reduces every element, including text and line weights. A layout that reads well at A4 may become too small after reduction.
Design at the final size when possible. If you are preparing a booklet, plan page order and binding separately from the paper dimensions.
See the A5 size reference.
