How Paper Size to Pixels Conversion Works
A pixel dimension depends on both the physical paper size and the chosen DPI (dots per inch). The formula is simple: multiply the size in inches by the DPI.
For example, A4 paper is 210 × 297 mm, which equals 8.27 × 11.69 inches. At 300 DPI: 8.27 × 300 = 2,480 pixels wide, 11.69 × 300 = 3,508 pixels tall.
Choosing the Right DPI
- 72 DPI — Screen resolution. Not suitable for printing.
- 150 DPI — Acceptable for everyday documents and flyers.
- 300 DPI — Standard for high-quality printing and photography.
- 600 DPI — Fine art, detailed line work, and pre-press output.
Higher DPI means more pixels, larger file sizes, and sharper print output. The physical paper size stays the same — DPI only affects the resolution of the image that fills it.
