A7 is part of the a paper sizes standard. The A series traces its standardised dimensions to DIN 476, published in Germany in 1922. Georg Christoph Lichtenberg had described the underlying square-root-of-two aspect-ratio principle in 1786. ISO 216 brought the A and B trimmed-paper formats into an international standard in 1975; numbered A sizes retain approximately the same proportions as each sheet is halved.
